Let’s Make a Play

 Imagine having 15 hours to make a play. That’s right, 15 hours. From beginning to end. And that means writing it, acting in it, directing it, preparing the set / props, lighting and sound. It can be done, in fact it has been done. And The Ice Studio Factory Theatre together with its resident company The Teignmouth Players are going to have a go at achieving it. Fancy joining in?

The only prerequisite is: everyone does everything.

That means accessing costumes, making or finding props, creating sound effects and / or acting in the play itself. And for once it matters not whether you can do any or all of the above jobs. “Let’s Make a Play” is being created and undertaken to allow people with a genuine interest in theatre and the performing arts to come along, under no pressure, and learn from the experience of those who have been there and lived to tell the tale!

The “creation” of the play, whether it is strictly drama, or contains music and / or dance, will take place either in the theatre itself on the first floor of the Ice Factory Theatre building or in the rehearsal room on the ground floor. Sessions will last for approximately 3 hours; they will start on Monday 3rd November at 6.30pm and will take place each Monday for 5 weeks. We will then have a public showing of what we have created, involving..... everyone.

So, do you fancy coming along and learning how to put on your very own production? Or teaming up with like-minded theatre enthusiasts and establishing your own company afterwards? The cost is £10 for each of the “creative” sessions to cover expenses, and attendees must be over the age of 18 unless known to us (i.e. members of Teignmouth Players). The public performance is free for attendees though there will be a small charge for the audience.

So, if you’ve ever fancied a go at creating a play completely from scratch, this is your chance to have a go. The only definite is that you start with a bare stage. Needless to say you will need to attend all of the 5 sessions as well as the final performance and the £50 fee is payable a week before the sessions start, i.e. before Monday 27th October.
