Play Reading
AGATHA'S FRIEND
A musical comedy drama, written by Gordon Mellor
Saturday 31st May at 2.30
The play takes place in the piano room of Greenway House, Agatha Christie’s home in Devon. The volunteer pianist, Geoffrey Marston, is welcomed by Laura, the stately galleon who rules Greenway with a ‘rod of iron’.
Enter Mum, Dad (comically enchanted by each other) and their son, Connor, who thinks little of the planned cultural visit.
The least annoying part of the visit for Connor is the piano and he begins to play a song with Geoffrey. The combination of the music, the date (being an important anniversary) and the family connection bring us visions from the past, viewed only by Geoffrey and Connor.
They become fascinated (Connor even obsessed) by these historical insights. They give as an excuse for the time they are spending, a ‘research project into Greenway’ despite the amazement of Mum and Dad and the suspicions of Laura.
Gordon will be leading the evening, and is bringing his keyboard so we can listen to some of the songs, which he has also written himself.
