G is for Gobo, Gel and Gauze all useful items but do you know what they all are, if not this section aims to let you know but not as many as for other letters…
Gallery:The highest section of the theatre; a section at the back or sides without seats where people can stand to watch a performance, usually raised.
Gaffer Tape: Strong, sticky, cloth-based tape used temporarily to secure cables, mark out areas, or hold props.
Gauze: A fine mesh fabric that appears opaque when lit from the front, but becomes transparent when lit from behind.
G-clamp: Used for fastening lanterns to a bar. A G-shaped piece of metal with a screw through the bar of the G
which clamps to the lighting bar
Gel: Film placed in front of a lantern to change the colour of the beam
Genre: The type of drama, for example tragedy, comedy, satire, melodrama.
Get In: Fit up; the process of setting up the theatre for the show.
Get Out:The reverse of a get in; packing up the show and loading it into trucks after the final performance.
Gobo: A metal or glass plate with a pattern cut into placed inside or in front of a light source to project shapes or logos onto a surface or to create dramatic shadows and textures.
Greenroom: A room backstage where actors can sit and relax before, during or after a show. Once common but greenrooms are not always provided these days.
