Review of Teignmouth players production of SIX:Teen edition

A right girl power take over, 6 queens, one royal mic drop!!

I was lucky enough to attend the dress rehearsal of the Teignmouth Players production of SIX:Teen edition at the Pavilions Teignmouth. It was a vibrant, energetic and thoroughly entertaining theatrical experience that showcased a wealth of young talent. Featuring a cast aged between 13 and 18 years, this vocally demanding musical was performed with confidence, skill and infectious enthusiasm, leaving me captivated from start to finish.

SIX reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as modern-day pop stars who compete to tell their side of the story and determine who had the toughest experience as queen. Blending history with contemporary storytelling, the show transforms these often-overlooked women into powerful, relatable characters. The score draws inspiration from some of the biggest names in pop and rock music, creating an experience packed with catchy songs, humour and heart.

This vocally challenging show requires exceptional skill from its performers, and the young cast rose magnificently to the challenge. They dazzled as they took to the stage, delivering performances full of confidence, personality and charisma. Each queen brought her own unique style and character to the production, while the ensemble of queens provided fantastic support throughout. Their commitment, stage presence and professionalism belied their years, making for a truly memorable experience.

The performers are supported by a fantastic pop-rock soundtrack, simple yet effective staging, creative costumes and stunning lighting design. The choreography is dynamic and transforms Tudor history into a modern day pop spectacle. The production created a polished and immersive atmosphere that perfectly complemented the show's high-energy format. Every technical element worked so well and enhanced the performances and kept me engaged throughout.

Teignmouth Players should be immensely proud of what they have achieved with this production. SIX is a celebration of youth, talent and creativity, delivered with style, confidence and flair. It is quite simply a show not to be missed and you might need some tissues, I felt quite emotional watching these young people be fabulous!!. Grab your tickets now!
